As an alternative for burning, the Village of Somonauk will offer a free curbside leaf-and-brush pick-up service. The service, with the help of the FFA, will begin Oct. 26 and run through November.

Pickup takes place Mondays, keeping in mind that no root balls, stumps or garbage will be collected with the leaves and brush, which must be bagged. Homeowners are asked to place their bagged leaves in front of their homes at curbside. Those who have debris for pickup should call Village Hall, 815-498-3500 by noon on Mondays.

A speedy, clean burn is permitted starting one half hour after sunrise through one half hour before sunset, but city officials are offering the pickup service as a replacement for burning. The service, offered for Somonauk residents only, serves as a fundraiser for the FFA and a benefit to those suffering from allergies, emphysema and asthma.
