LaSalle-Peru Township HSD board views model classroom

The LaSalle-Peru Township High School District 120 Board of Education met Sept. 14 to view the completed model classroom.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

"LaSalle-Peru Township High School is governed by a School Board consisting of 7 members. The Board’s powers and duties include the authority to adopt, enforce, and monitor all policies for the management and governance of the District’s schools. Official action by the Board may only occur at a duly called and legally conducted meeting at which a quorum is physically present."

BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE MEETING WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2016, 5:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER Mr. Alan Cherpeske, Committee chair, called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL PRESENT: Mr. Alan Cherpeske, Committee chair, Dr. Rose Marie Lynch and Mrs. Cathy Renk ABSENT: NOne OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Mr. Steven Wrobleski, Superintendent, Mr. Michael Kmetz, Kmetz Architects Inc., Mr. Ritchie Kowalczyk, Director of Building & Grounds, Mr. Matt Glupczynski, Head Baseball Coach and Social Science Teacher and Mrs. Julie Bleck, Board Secretary

REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE AUGUST 10, 2016 MEETING MINUTES Motion: by Mrs. Renk, seconded by Dr. Lynch to approve the August 10, 2016 meeting minutes. All in favor: Mrs. Renk, Dr. Lynch and Mr. Cherpeske. The motion carried.

10 YEAR HEALTH LIFE SAFETY SURVEY PROPOSAL Mr. Wrobleski and Mr. Kmetz updated the Committee on all preliminary costs and urgency of the proposed Health/ Life Safety Surveys for the Main Building, East Gym/Industrial Education Building, Dolan Building and the Auto Shop Building. A preliminary 10 Year Health/Life Safety Survey was drafted with a 5 year inflation cost adjusted on the 4 buildings that makes up LaSalle-Peru High School Campus. The Committee was in favor of the Health/Life Safety Surveys and felt it was a very comprehensive report. Mr. Wrobleski also thanked Mr. Kmetz and Mr. Kowalczyk on the work and time that went into the H/LS Survey. This will be on the September 21, 2016 regular board agenda.

ACCEPT TO RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVE THE 10 YEAR HEALTH LIFE SAFETY SURVEY PROPOSALS (S26,494,633.) MOTION by Mrs. Renk, seconded by Dr. Lynch to accept to recommend the Board of Education approve the 10 Year Health Life Safety Survey Proposals as presented. Voting Aye: Mrs. Renk, Dr. Lynch and Mr. Cherpeske. Voting Nay: None. The motion carried.

SUMMER PROJECTS-FINAL UPDATE ON PLUMBING WORK Mr. Kmetz updated the Committee regarding the Summer Projects, all work has been completed with exception of Piping in the Laundry Room. Mr. Kmetz and Mr. Kowalczyk did their walk through with a punch list when it was discovered that the water piping work for the Laundry Room was not completed. John's Service and Sales will need to finish the piping by shutting water off for a day to complete. Mr. Kowalczyk and John's Service and Sales tentatively set as Columbus Day for completion. -

RECYCLING BIN CEMENT PAD UPDATE Mr. Kowalczyk informed the Building and Grounds Committee that the Recycling Bin Cement Pad has been completed.

FOOTBALL STADIUM SIDELINE CARPETING TIMELINE Mr. Kowalczyk updated the committee since he received a price from Mr. Fran Szott, Szott's Carpet for $12.90 Sq. yard for a total of $7,194.00- base price without tax, the price on both the carpet and padding has been reduced. The replacement of the carpet/padding on the side lines is tentatively set for installation, by L-P’s Maintenance Crew from the 25 to 25 yard line, Summer of 2017

VETERANS PARK UPDATE Mr. Wrobleski and Coach Glupczynski updated the concerns with lack of drainage at Peru Veteran’s Park Baseball field. Mr. Chris Kirkpatrick, Athletic Director had a firm come in and review the field's drainage issue. Coach Glupczynski discussed the recent meeting held at the Peru Recreational Department with discussion on the possibility of City of Peru and LaSalle-Peru High School share the cost of maintaining the field and for the months of March through June the field will be solely used by L-P’s Baseball Teams. A follow-up meeting will be set up to meet with the City of Peru.

LOCKER ROOM REPLACEMENT PROPOSAL Mr. Kowalczyk recommended List Industries Inc. to replace the lockers in the Sellett Gym Boys’ locker room for $23,340.00. List Industries Inc. will be coming out to measure area before placing the order. Original quoted price was $25,950. With the Maintenance Staff installing the lockers- with a savings of $2.610. Final cost $23,340.00.

ACCEPT TO RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVE THE LOCKER ROOM REPLACEMENT PROPOSAL (S23,340) MOTION by Dr. Lynch, seconded by Mrs. Renk to accept to recommend the Board of Education approve the Locker Room Replacement Proposal ($23,340) as presented. Voting Aye: Dr. Lynch, Mrs. Renk and Mr. Cherpeske. Voting Nay: None. The motion carried.

MODEL CLASSROOM. UPDATE Mr. Wrobleski updated the committee on the completion of the Model Classroom. Great feedback from both students and Staff. Tours have been scheduled and advertised in the newspaper for the public to view starting Saturday, September 17th and Tuesday, September 20th.

PROPERTY UPDATE Mr. Wrobleski updated the committee on Friday, September 16, 2016 closing on the Transition House at 1045th Street, LaSalle. The environmental report completed and waiting for Mr. Dave Haskins return of the contract for the 7" Street property. We are waiting for the environmental report for the property on Orleans Street in Peru.

HEATING COIL REPLACEMENT-SELLETT GYMSOUTHWEST BALCONY Mr. Ritchie Kowalczyk reported that a heating coil will need to be replaced in the Sellett Gym. There are 4 coil units in the gym with 1 coil out. Mr. Kowalczyk recommends replacing the damaged coil, for approximately $1,200.- $2,000.
