Giving back to her alma mater, Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) alumna Nicki McVey, along with her husband Doug, recently launched an annual health care scholarship package for the college’s foundation, pledging $5,000 annually with hopes of mentoring students.

The Illinois Valley graduate works as a vascular care RN in Geneva, where she lives with her family. Specializing in catheter insertion, McVey has proven her commitment to hands-on help since graduating from IVCC in 2001, instructing practitioners and now promising to help the next generation of medical personnel with the scholarship.

“I had an exceptional experience as a student at IVCC,” said McVey, who is herself a former scholarship recipient.

McVey continued by stating that she felt fortunate to have benefited from the school’s opportunities.

“The instructors are highly committed to the success of their students,” she said. “Their dedication to this impressive program helped influence my decision when selecting a school to give back to.”

The scholarship will begin in fall 2017. For information about creating an IVCC Foundation scholarship, individuals may contact Fran Brolley at 815-224-0466; students can apply for all 2017-18 IVCC scholarships until Feb. 10.

“Nicki is another IVCC success story, an inspiration to the faculty who taught her and a model for our nursing students to emulate,” IVCC President Jerry Corcoran said. “Every year, the (family’s) generosity will provide a significant, life-changing reward for two deserving health care students.”

Illinois Valley Community College is located at 815 N. Orlando Smith Road in Oglesby.
