Two scholarships are available for Illinois-residing students planning full-time college enrollment for 2017-18, courtesy of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association (ISA), according to the association’s website and a local news outlet.

Mywebtimes.com stated that among the Illinois Sheriff’s Association’s available statewide financial support incentives, one pair of scholarships is designated especially for LaSalle County students.

“The ISA has always taken special interest in the youth of the state of Illinois,” the association said on its website. “One of the ISA goals is for Illinois children to become well-educated adults, able to cope with the pressures of today’s society. Thanks to [member] support, the ISA is able to offer scholarship programs to students throughout Illinois.”

Each scholarship is for $500 and applicants will be able to file paperwork requesting the support up until March 15. The ISA emphasized that all applications submitted must be postmarked by that date or hand-delivered to the sheriff’s office in Ottawa.

Applications can be picked up in person at the sheriff's office in Ottawa, at 707 E. Etna Road, or obtained via the sheriffs' association website, ilsheriff.org. Students can use the scholarship money for tuition, books and/or fees.

More information is available by visiting the ISA’s website; consulting with a school financial aid office; or contacting the sheriff's office at 815-433-2161.

Students should note that applications must be filed in the county of residence. Additionally, the application includes an essay portion.

The ISA is a nonprofit based in Springfield.
