Mendota FD responds to 21 fires in 2018

Mendota Fire Department responded to 71 calls in 2018 - 7.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mendota included 21 fires - 12 structure fires, one vehicle fire and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $115,900 in fire loss - or about $5,519 per fire.

The department also received 48 false calls.

The Mendota Fire Department had an annual budget of $128,732 in 2018.

The Mendota Firefighters Pension Fund, which has six active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $58,118 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,325 for every fire in 2017.
