Peru Elementary School District 124 Board of Education met Aug. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

The regular meeting of the month of June of the Board of Education of Peru Elementary School District 124, LaSalle County, Illinois, was called to order in the Learning Resource Center at Parkside School by Board President Patti Leynaud at 6:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

President Leynaud led the Board and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL 

PRESENT: Members Rob Ankiewicz, Josanne Bruins, Austin Taylor, Simon Kampwerth, Vice President C.G. Pillai and President Patti Leynaud.

OTHERS PRESENT: Superintendent Jamie Craven, Brent Ziegler, Sara McDonald, Members of the P.E.A.: Beth Rich and Katie Budnick, Charlotte Hughes, Northview student and parent, Alicia Hughes.

MOTION: Moved by Vice President Pillai, seconded by Member Bruins, to approve the meeting agenda of August 17 2022. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Pillai, Bruins, Ankiewicz, Taylor, Kampwerth and Leynaud. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0. 

PUBLIC COMMENT, CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS 

Charlotte’s Lemonade Stand 

Charlotte Hughes, 3rd grade student at Northview School this year hosted a lemonade stand this summer with the help of her mother, Alicia Hughes. She sold lemonade for $1.00 a cup and chocolate chip cookies, that were donated to her by the Maples were sold for $1.50. The total amount raised was $716.00. Charlotte proudly presented a check to Mrs. McDonald and the Board of Education to donate the funds to Northview for popsicles and ice cream for the students. This is one of the many times that Charlotte has raised money for others. Past years’ entrepreneurial endeavors resulted in a donation of toys for doctor’s offices and books for the little library at Northview School.

ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Kampwerth, Ankiewicz, Leynaud, Pillai, Taylor and BruinsNAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0. 

REPORTS, UPDATES AND INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 

Mrs. McDonald reported: 

∙ There were a total of 37 students screened for preschool at Northview for the preschool program and the district enrolled 23. The preschool program is as full as they can get with a total of 99 students enrolled.

∙ There is a total of 84 students enrolled in Kindergarten, 89 in First grade, 101 in Second grade, 99 in Third grade and 97 in Fourth grade with a total of 575 students enrolled at Northview for the 2022-2023 school year.

∙ Mrs. McDonald is happy to be as close as normal for the return to school.

∙ Summer School serviced 80 students at Northview and was completed on August 5, 2022.

Mr. Ziegler reported: 

∙ The Open-House held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 had a very steady crowd at Parkside. 

∙ There are 99 students enrolled in Fifth grade, 88 students in Sixth grade, 84 in Seventh grade and 100 in Eighth grade with a total of 371 students enrolled at Parkside for the 2022-2023 school year.

∙ Working with staff during the return to school transition has been very smooth and the District held a great opening staff meeting the morning of the first day of Teacher Institute.

Superintendent’s Report 

Mr. Craven Reported: 

∙ The District’s Crisis Response meeting was held on August 4, 2022.

∙ New Staff Orientation was held on August 5, 2022. A lot of information is shared with staff to assist with the transition. Also, each teacher is assigned a mentor who will work with them throughout the year. The mentor program includes a monthly schedule and timely topics to be reviewed and discussed.

∙ Teacher Institute and Professional Development days were held on August 16-17, 2022. 

∙ The custodial staff once again did a tremendous job of cleaning our buildings from top to bottom this summer. Everything is ready for our staff and students.

∙ A thank you was delivered to all of the secretarial and support staff who participated in registration day which was held on August 2, 2022. Many hours of preparation go into this day along with the data entry in the weeks to follow. The District staff had an incredibly busy summer getting new staff processed and endless reports were completed to close out last year and to get ready for the new year.

∙ The Reopening plan for the school year was presented.

∙ Review of the updated Teacher Evaluation plan.

∙ Review of the evaluators for certified and non-certified staff.

∙ Illinois Department of Transportation Serious Safety Hazard Resolution was presented. 

∙ PRESS Policies with the recommended additions, deletions and modifications of Board of Education Policies Numbers were presented: 2:230; 3:70; 4:10; 4:70; 4:180; 5:40; 5:70; 5:80; 5:110; 5:140; 5;240; 6:70; 6:80; 6:140; 6:290; 6:330; 7:15; 7:270; 7:285. 

Approval of the 2022-23 Peru Elementary School District 124 Tentative Budget 

MOTION: Moved by Vice President Pillai, seconded by Member Kampwerth, to approve the 2022- 2023 Peru ESD 124 Tentative Budget. ROLL CALL VOTING AYE: Pillai, Kampwerth, Bruins, Taylor, Leynaud and Ankiewicz. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0.

Adoption of the 2022-23 Peru Elementary School District 124 Reopening Plan 

MOTION: Moved by Member Kampwerth, seconded by Member Ankiewicz to approve the adoption of 2022-23 Peru ESD 124 Reopening Plan. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Kampwerth, Ankiewicz, Bruins, Taylor Pillai and Leynaud.. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0. 

Approval of the 2022-23 Updated Teacher Evaluation Plan 

MOTION: Moved by Member Taylor, seconded by Vice President Pillai, to approve the updated 2022- 23 Teacher Evaluation Plan. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Taylor, Pillai, Leynaud, Ankiewicz and Bruins. NAYS: None. ABSTAIN: Kampwerth. The motion carried 5-0. 

Approval of the 2022-23 Evaluators for Certified and Non-Certified Staff 

MOTION: Moved by Member Bruins, seconded by Member Kampwerth to approve the 2022-23 Evaluators for Certified and Non-Certified Staff. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Bruins, Kampwerth, Pillai, Leynaud, Ankiewicz and Bruins. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0. 

Adoption of the Illinois Department of Transportation Serious Safety Hazard Resolution MOTION: Moved by Member Kampwerth, seconded by Member Ankiewicz to approve the adoption of the IDOT Serious Safety Hazard Resolution. AYE: 6 NAYS: 0. The motion carried 6-0.

MOTION: Moved by Member Kampwerth, seconded by Member Bruins, to adjourn to Executive Session at 6:55 p.m. for the discussion of information regarding the employment, performance, or dismissal of employees or district legal counsel; and discussion of information related to employee salaries, benefits, and issues related to collective bargaining. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Kampwerth, Bruins, Taylor, Pillai, Leynaud and Ankiewicz. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0.

MOTION: Moved by Vice President Pillai, seconded by Member Bruins, to return to Regular Session at 7:03 p.m. ROLL CALL, VOTING AYE: Pillai, Bruins, Taylor, Kampwerth, Leynaud and Ankiewicz. NAYS: None. The motion carried 6-0.
