In a June 30 newsletter, Illinois state Rep. Bradley Fritts announced a school supply drive.

“I am excited to announce that I will be hosting my first annual School Supply Drive for students in need,” Fritts stated in the newsletter, which also included legislative updates. “If we want to fix our education system, we need to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to excel in their studies.”

The school supply drive is scheduled from July 17 – 31, according to the newsletter. Items needed include backpacks, crayons, colored pencils, dry-erase markers, washable color markers, wide-ruled notebooks, yellow highlighters, wide-ruled loose-leaf notebook paper, hand sanitizer, pocket folders, No. 2 pencils, and more.

“Without the necessary supplies, it’s incredibly challenging for any student to succeed,” according to the newsletter. “Let’s come together as a community to provide these children with the tools they need to build a brighter future.”

Supplies will be accepted at several locations in District 74 including Amboy High School, Ashton Village Hall, Earlville Village Center, Polo High School, Waterman Village Hall, Rochelle High School, Rock Falls High School, and Fritts’s office in Dixon. For a complete list of requested items and drop-off locations, visit Fritts’s website.

Along with planning a school supply drive, Fritts has been busy attending various events across District 74. In a June 30 Facebook post, he shared a visit to Jakobs Bros Farm.

“Thank you to Jakobs Bros Farm for hosting me for a tour of your farm,” he wrote in the post. “It is always beneficial to hear from different farmers in District 74 about ways to make farming easier, safer, and more profitable for the hard-working families in Illinois who keep us fed.”

He is also planning a series of traveling office hours and Coffee and Conversation events, according to his website. Fritts will offer office hours to his constituents on July 26 at the Malta Community Building, at 115 S. 3rd St., Malta from 10 – 11 a.m. He will also be available to meet with constituents at the Creston Library at 107 S. Main St., Creston from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and at Rochelle City Hall at 420 N. 6th St., Rochelle from 1:30 – 3 p.m.

The representative will host a Coffee and Conversation event on July 19 at A’s Kitchen, at 2004 1st Ave., Rock Falls from 8 – 10 a.m.
