Village of Seneca Village Council met July 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Seneca Village Council held a regularly scheduled Council meeting at Seneca Village Hall on July 5, 2023 and the meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Roll Call:

Present: Commissioners Higgins, Peddicord, Victor and Weber

Absent: Mayor Olson

Also Present: Village Clerk Jennifer Peddicord

Commissioner Victor is acting as Mayor Pro Tem due to the absence of Mayor Olson.

All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

A motion was made by Comm. Higgins and seconded by Comm. Peddicord that the Council approve the June 20, 2023 Council meeting minutes as presented.

Roll Call: Ayes: Higgins, Peddicord, Victor and Weber

Nays: None

Absent: Mayor Olson

A motion was made by Comm. Higgins and seconded by Comm. Weber that the Council approve the payment of bills as presented. Comm. Weber advised that bills are much higher than usual for the water department due to well pump #3 not pumping water. The well pump had to be repaired, which was an unexpected expense. The pipe was lined with new material and will hopefully not need to be serviced again for another 5-6 years.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT PRESENTATION: 

None.

COMMUNICATIONS, PETITIONS, REPORTS AND ADDITIONAL AGENDA ITEMS: 

Comm. Weber: Old: Update regarding recent truck purchase.

OLD BUSINESS: 

Commissioner Weber: Comm. Weber advised that we took ownership of the new truck last week and have determined it is not going to work for us. The truck will not fit the work tools. Research is being done on how to get rid of the truck and what to replace it with.

COMMISSIONER'S REPORT AND NEW BUSINESS: 

PUBLIC PROPERTY, WATER & SEWER - WEBER: 

A motion was made by Comm. Weber and seconded by Comm. Higgins to approve an expenditure to Prairie State Water Systems, Inc. in the amount of $35,004.35 for well repairs.

Roll Call: Ayes: Higgins, Peddicord, Victor and Weber

Nays: None

Absent: Mayor Olson

A motion was made by Comm. Weber and seconded by Comm. Higgins to approve an expenditure to James Olson d/b/a Olson's Iron and Disposal Recycling in the amount of $8,000.00 for clean-up days. This was another successful event. Four 30-yard dumpsters were filled.

ACCOUNTS AND FINANCE - VICTOR: 

None.

STREETS - HIGGINS: 

None.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY - PEDDICORD: 

None.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS - OLSON: 

Comm. Victor announced that there is a park board vacancy. Letters of interest will be accepted at village hall until August 9. The park board meets once a month and office terms are for four years. This is for vacancy left by the passing of Darin Crask.

PUBLIC COMMENT: 

None.

A motion was made by Comm. Weber and seconded by Comm. Peddicord to adjourn the council meeting at 6:07 p.m.
