City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Present: 

Tim McTaggart 

Steve Malinsky 

Chief Brent Roalson

Tim McTaggart called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. 

Public Comment 

None 

Minutes 

Moved by Tim McTaggart second by Steve Malinsky, to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2023, meeting  as written. All ayes. Motion passed. 

Authorize Fire Department Hiring  

The Board has received a request from Commissioner Ganiere to hire four fire fighters, three for vacancies in  relation to the SAFER grant and one created by a deployment with a retirement occurring during the deployment.  

Moved by Tim McTaggart, second by Steve Malinsky to offer conditional employment to the next four (4) eligible  candidates on the current entry level Fire Fighter Eligibility Register. All ayes. Motion passed.  

Authorize Sergeant Eligibility Register 

The Board did not receive requests for preference points for the initial eligibility register for Sergeant therefore  no points were awarded. The Final Eligibility Register is as follows: 

1. Matthew Najdanovich 90.17 

2. Wesley Pender 87.70 

3. Adam Jobst 82.32 

4. Joseph Hilton 81.97 

Moved by Tim McTaggart, second by Steve Malinsky to adopt the final promotional eligibility register of Sergeant.  All ayes. Motion passed. 

Finalize Police Lateral Hires 

Jacob Callahan and Alexander Jordon were offered conditional employment and have completed all pre employment exams successfully.  

Executive Session 

Moved by Steve Malinsky, second by Tim McTaggart to enter executive session at 10:11 a.m. to discuss a matter  of personnel. 

Steve Malinsky: Aye 

Tim McTaggart: Aye 

All ayes. Motion Passed. 

The Board reconvened into open session at 10:18 a.m.

Moved by Tim McTaggart, second by Steve Malinsky to accept all pre-employment results and set start date for  Jacob Callahan and Alexander Jordon. All ayes. Motion passed.  

Fire and Police Fall Seminar 

Tim McTaggart will be going to the fall seminar and will get the information for registration. 

Old Business 

Ken Brown will need to review the Sergeant written exam with LETA as there are a few minor tweaks that need  to be made to the exam for future use.  

Orals are currently underway for Police entry level eligibility register.

None

Next meeting is scheduled for November 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
