Earlville Community Unit School District 9 announced on Feb. 27 that it will celebrate National School Breakfast Week from March 2 to March 6, including a special giveaway for families who participate in the district’s meal service program.
The event aims to highlight the importance of a healthy breakfast for students and to inform parents and students about the variety of nutritious options available through the school meal service. The district said, “A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students get the best education they can.” The district also stated, “National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the healthy, great tasting, appealing choices we offer.”
As part of this initiative, any household making a payment to their student’s meal account between March 2 and March 6 will be entered into a drawing for a $50 credit toward their student’s meal service account. According to the announcement, “In Honor of National School Breakfast Week, we’re kicking off a ‘Giveaway’ beginning Monday March 2 through March 6th, one lucky household will receive a $50.00 credit towards their student’s meal service account simply by making a payment to their account during this time. It’s really that easy!” Payments made via E-pay or dropped off at the district office are eligible. Additionally, parents may enter by submitting a postcard explaining why they appreciate the school meal service; no purchase is necessary.
Earlville Community Unit School District 9 serves LaSalle and DeKalb counties and includes Earlville Elementary School as well as Earlville Junior/Senior High School according to Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 398 students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade during the 2019-2020 school year and spent $20,660 per student in that period according to Illinois Report Card.
The teaching staff consists of 36 teachers with an average salary of $45,677 before pension contributions; most are women (75.4 percent), while men make up 24.6 percent. There were no teachers with more than ten absences in one school year according to Illinois Report Card. Demographically, the student body is composed of approximately 83.4 percent White students, with Hispanic students representing about 14.3 percent and Black students accounting for less than one percent according to ISBE.
Chronic truancy rates in Earlville Community Unit School District 9 remain below state averages: seven students were classified as chronically truant in the last reported year—a rate of just 1.7 percent compared with Illinois’ statewide average of 9.6 percent according to ISBE.
The drawing for the $50 credit will take place at the end of National School Breakfast Week on March 6, with winners notified by district officials.
