There have been 244 confirmed coronavirus cases in Grundy County as of July 26, with five deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (59,135 cases) and Cook County (43,448 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 2,747, while Cook County recorded 2,083 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,511,567, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 30,956 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 80,534 were male and 87,887 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,984, while female deaths stood at 3,409.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,294 Asians, 3,294 whites, 2,033 African-Americans, 1,540 Hispanics, and 178 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
