There have been 245,371 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of September 4, with 8,143 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (72,613 cases) and Cook County (56,932 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 2,890, while Cook County recorded 2,196 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,309,941, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 48,732 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 114,736 were male and 125,716 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,388, while female deaths stood at 3,750.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,758 Asians, 3,758 whites, 2,159 African-Americans, 1,643 Hispanics, and 211 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
