Kennedy Meloy was named the January Student of the Month, according to a Jan. 28 announcement from Earlville Community Unit School District 9. Meloy, daughter of Tyler and Barb Meloy, was recognized for her academic performance, character, and behavior.
The Student of the Month award highlights students who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and positive traits such as compassion, honesty, initiative, loyalty, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness. The district said that Meloy is seen as a leader by her peers and consistently shows respect to both classmates and authority figures.
Earlville Community Unit School District 9 serves LaSalle and DeKalb counties through Earlville Elementary School and Earlville Junior/Senior High School according to the Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 398 students in the 2019-2020 school year and provides education from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade according to the Illinois Report Card.
The district has a teaching staff of 36 with an average salary of $45,677 before pension contributions; about three-quarters are women. No teachers had more than ten absences in a school year according to state data. Demographically, the student body is 83.4 percent White, 14.3 percent Hispanic, and 0.3 percent Black according to state records.
In terms of spending, Earlville Community Unit School District 9 spent $20,660 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $8,222,584 as reported by state data. The district also reported seven chronically truant students during the same period—a rate of 1.7 percent—well below the statewide average of 9.6 percent according to ISBE statistics.
As part of her recognition for Student of the Month, Kennedy Meloy will receive a preferred parking spot and a gift card.
