At a recent meeting, the Illinois Fire Advisory Commission discussed State Certification Advisory Committee applications.

I. The meeting was called to order by Chairman J. Holomy at 1:00 p.m.

II. Roll call was taken and a quorum met.

III. A motion was made by J. Holomy, seconded by C. Ware to approve the minutes of the

March meeting. A voice vote was held and all approved. Motion passed.

IV. Old Business:

A. New Members: Christopher Ware

Introduction from new member Christopher Ware representing Waynesville Fire

Protection District, as well as DeWitt County, in Clinton, IL. He is the Assistant Fire Chief

of Waynesville and was recently appointed by the Governor’s Office. He also is a former

police officer.

B. Blue Ribbon Report

J. Swan stated that he wanted to start a taskforce soon to discuss concerns and meet

objectives before the Summit. He mentioned creating a “white paper”, as well as

legislative issues (such as budget and losing Rep Donald Moffitt, co-chair of the Fire

Caucus). He suggested IFA should take the lead and would discuss the topics in Peoria.

J. Swan said he would make sure to send out materials ahead of the meeting to ensure

attendees would be versed on issues relating to the report. Key participants will discuss

the matters at a meeting on Friday, June 24th in Peoria, IL. An exact meeting location is

yet to be determined.

C. Other Old Business

Les Albert stated that he is still accepting applications for the State Certification

Advisory Committee members. He requested that completed applications be emailed to

him. He also thanked the members whom have already sent completed applications.

V. New business:

A. Actions taken by NFPA- B. Brauer

B. Brauer presented a PowerPoint presentation regarding actions that have been taken

at the May 2016 NFPA TCC Pro Qual Standards Meeting. He explained the standards

development process and the different phases that the council issues. He highlighted

NFPA 1001 (Firefighter). B. Brauer noted that comments close on 11/17/16. He again

requested that members review all documents and coordinate comments with their

respective agencies. He emphasized that there is plenty of time to influence not only

the content, but also the structure of the document with thoughtful comments. He

went on to say that this will have the biggest impact on almost every organization.
