Seneca Township High School District 160 Building, Grounds & Transportation Committee met Oct. 4.

A meeting of the Building, Grounds & Transportation Committee was held on October 4, 2017 at 9:00a.m. The meeting was called to order with the following members present: Ron Frye, Joe Johnson and Mark Victor. Also present: Jim Carlson, Barry Buchanan, Carolyn Lockridge and Dan Stecken.
A. Public Comment
There was no public comment.
B. Building, Grounds & Transportation
1. Potential Building Purchase - Graves Lumber Building
Dr. Carlson stated the he and Jeff Maierhofer, toured the Graves Lumber Building that is for sale. A discussion was held concerning potential uses for the building including using it as a project for the Ag Construction class. Dr. Carlson was directed to looking into a building inspection and potential cost of the project and report back to the Committee.
2. Rat Run
Dr. Carlson reviewed a letter he received from residents on Lincoln Street whose backyards connect to Rat Run. The letter requests that the district dredge the Rat Run along the school property. Dr. Carlson stated he contacted Dave Spicer, Village of Seneca Mayor on who would give permission for any potential dredging. The committee supported the idea and directed Dr. Carlson to continue working with the Village to determine possible solutions to the Rat Run Flooding.
3. Summer 2018 Projects
Dr. Carlson reviewed the 2018 Summer Projects. Ameresco will be completing items from the Life Safety Amendment. In addition, the Special Needs Room has been identified as a summer project.
4. School Architect
Dr. Carlson stated that with the potential upcoming building projects, such as the Special Needs Room, Auditorium, Science Classroom upgrades, etc, that it might be time to employee a School Architect. Dr. Carlson was directed to provide board members with a list of potential Architects so Board Members attending the school board conference can visit their vendor booths. In addition, a discussion was held on the board policy related to selecting a School Architect and a possible timeline for the selection.
C. Other
Barry Buchanan updated the Committee on the stage curtains and auditorium lighting issue. He indicated the concrete will be poured next week for the track bleachers. Electrical work was completed for the new welders and outlets were installed by the future press box area behind the bleachers.
D. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
