Illinois Valley Community College course can open the road to a truck driving career

Truck leasing

If you ever thought about driving down the highway behind the wheel of a big rig, Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) can help you get started through a four-week, 160-hour “Truck Driver Training Course” that will begin Jan. 8.

IVCC’s job training program prepares students with the skills necessary for the workforce in the trucking industry as the program offers both behind-the-wheel training and classroom presentations, a posting on IVCC's website said. To ensure entry-level job placement, IVCC even provides “lifetime placement assistance.”

Completion of the 10-credit course earns participants a class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL) inclusive of all endorsements, the posting said. In addition, CDL “refresher” classes are open to those needing to strengthen their truck driving skills and/or to renew their license.

The course does not require any prerequisites or experience to enroll.

Classes will meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for four weeks. The course is also being offered as an evening class, which also begins Jan.8, that meets 5-10 p.m. Monday through Friday for six weeks.

For more information, contact the program's coordinator, Bruce Hartman, at 815-224-0266.
