CITY OF LA SALLE: Motorcycle club on tonight’s zoning commission agenda
City of Lasalle issued the following announcement on Aug. 1.
A motorcycle club wants zoning changes to allow their fraternal organization to make use of a manufacturing-zoned property in Peru.
Brothers of Darkness Motorcycle Club could find out tonight if a special use and text amendment will be recommended by Peru’s zoning commission to allow the club to use 1024 Center St., Peru as its clubhouse. A petition from Robert “Bobby” Miller, a tenant and agent for Brothers of Darkness Motorcycle Club, is on the agenda for 6 p.m. in Peru’s municipal building.
The matter came up at last week’s city council meeting, and aldermen and Peru’s police chief expressed some skepticism and concerns about granting the changes before referring the petition to the commission.Brothers of Darkness previously were located in Utica and left the village on their own, said Utica police chief Rodney Damron.
Damron said it is his understanding some club members were present at last August’s biker brawl in Ottawa.
Club sympathizer Ron “Barney” Ruggerio of La Salle fervently denied that.
Ruggerio said he wanted to become a member Brothers of Darkness before his work schedule interfered, and the club members he’s known have been “good guys.”
“They’d give you the shirt off your back,” he said. “They will not start nothing; if someone starts something with them, though they’ll take care of business. I don’t know where the name came from; I just know they’re trying to get big in different states.”
