Serena Community Unit School District 2 students suspended 24 times in a single school year

Serena Community Unit School District 2 reported 24 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 24 students during the year. That equates to 3.7 percent of the 652 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 10 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 11 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for drugs. The category includes six incidents. There were five incidents of unspecified reasons. For seven incidents, students were suspended for 5-10 days.
