Village of Arlington issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
October will roll out with many fun-filled fall activities! Make sure you to get these dates on your calendar!
The month opens with Autumn Harvest, a fall event for the family held in North School Park, Saturday, October 6, 11-3 p.m. at North School Park. Scarecrow-building, hay rides, petting zoo, crafts and more!
Then make plans for a family-friendly, All Hallow's Eve-frenzy on Saturday, October 20 at the Arlington Heights Museum featuring TnT Paranormal Investigators! Spend a lite-fright twilight with storytellers, kids crafts, games and more! Pre-register online!
Another don’t-miss event is the Arlington Heights Park District Trunk or Treat held at the Public Works garage, 222 N. Ridge Ave. on Friday, October 26 from 6 - 8:15 p.m. You can pay at the door, or register online.
Get your costumes ready for trick-or-treating in Arlington Heights, which will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Children are asked to visit homes that have outdoor lights on, and to be accompanied by an adult.
In addition, the annual Downtown Trick or Treat event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31. Families should plan a fun day downtown in their costumes and stroll around visiting stores, restaurants and businesses that will be participating in this event.
The Arlington Heights Police Department provides the following safety tips to keep in mind this Halloween.
Younger ‘trick or treaters’ should always be accompanied by an adult. Establish neighborhood boundaries and a curfew for older family members.
Inspect all treats before eating them.
Costumes should be flame resistant, made of bright or reflective material that does not impede the child’s ability to walk.
Masks that interfere with a child’s ability to see can be very dangerous, please make sure that your child can clearly see side to side.
Cross a street at the corner, preferably in a marked crosswalk. Use a flashlight to increase visibility.
Unfortunately, some interpret Halloween as a night of mischief. Parents should review acceptable behavior with their children and know the route your children are taking.
Take a moment to examine your property for hazards. Remove any unsecured implements that may cause a child to trip and fall.
