At a recent meeting, the Peru Parks and Recreation Board discussed efforts to acquire new playground equipment for Washington Park.
The board oversee all matters related to the creation, preparation and management of both public parks and recreation programs in the community.
Below are the minutes from this meeting, as provided by the board.

06/14/2016 Meeting, City Hall
The meeting was called to order at 6:31 pm by Board Chairman, Ray Zborowski. Board members inattendance were Janice Grabowski, Larry Weide, Steve Michelini, Linda Dzierzynski, and Bill Steve.
Absent was Simon Kampwerth Jr. Recreation Director, Lynda Kasik was present. Alderwoman, BeckyMueller was in attendance.
Guests: None
Reports: A motion to accept the minutes from the 05/10/2016 meeting with the following correction:strike the reference to a 2% increase for tennis personnel, was moved by Janice, seconded by Bill andpassed unanimously. Motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report dated 05/31/2016 was tabled until theJuly meeting as the report was unavailable.
Communications:
Ray announced:
The bleachers were installed at McKinley Park and looked great.
The Dog Shelter was installed at Wiggly Field with treated lumber, which will need to be stained in thefuture.
Tony DiCarlo with CSO is looking for five individuals or an organization to work the ticket booth from 5to close during the Firework celebration on 7/3/16. CSO will pay $300-400 to do so. Workers need to be21 years of age or older. Tony can be reached at 815-482-0600.
Mark Judy announced that the Challenger Sign that was to be placed on the right field fence, facingsouth, at Veteran’s Park East Diamond had been turned over to Jack Hughes for installation. Steveannounced that it was not up yet. Ray will investigate and report at the July meeting.
New Business:
Ray stated that volunteers from the AX Church were cleaning up along Route 6. Also, that PastorCameron Graper from the La Salle AX Church had consulted with Ray, Lynda Kasik and Jeff King and hadreceived permission for a group of 200 church volunteers from 6-8 churches with a budget of $1000 topaint park playground equipment at American Nickoloid, Washington, McKinley, 28th Street and SunsetParks in our community this week. The project is called “Hope Week”.
Unfinished Business:
Tabled until the July meeting and pending Council approval the order to seek bids for new playgroundequipment for Washington Park.
Linda led a discussion on the feasibility of moving the existing playground equipment on the site of thedemolished Washington School to one of Peru’s parks. Discussion tabled until the City of Peru is deededthe property.
Linda made a motion to receive City Council approval to allocate up to $30,000.00 to be paid for by PeruParks and Recreation Funds for the purchase of playground equipment to be placed in Washington Park,directly east of the West Street shelter and to open it up for bids. Janice seconded. Motion carriedunanimously.
Tabled until next meeting a potential motion to accept bids for court resurfacing/striping as only U.S.Tennis Court Construction Co. has submitted a bid. We are still seeking one to two more bids.
Lynda requested a new tennis net for 28th Street Park.July 3rd Firework Discussion: Ray announced that Rich Bowden, Peru Mall local leasing representative,had given all the event information to Mark Lippert at La Salle County Broadcasting. 5:00pm is the startof the activities, which include Beer Garden, food stands, car show, the band”303”, family area and ofcourse the fireworks. Ray secured 10 volunteers from AX church to help man the Bouncy Houses.
Melrose Pyrotechnics will arrive in town at 9:00am Sunday to set up. Steve and/or Ray will be liaisonswith Melrose.
Steve made a motion to hire two Peru Recreation employees at their current wage to assist with theBouncy Houses at Touch a Truck this Saturday. Bill seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Lynda announced that Cami, the YMCA race coordinator, had moved out of state. In light of this newsthe Race may be canceled for this year. Lynda will check with the YMCA to see if anyone else is going tocoordinate the race for the YMCA. This item will be placed on next month’s agenda.
Public Comment
Alderwoman Becky Mueller announced that the Peru City Float would be at Touch a Truck,
decorated in red, white and blue with a banner Peru Pride since 1835. She is hoping to havebuttons to pass out.
