Peru Recreation Board discusses efforts to expand Rotary Park pavilion

At a recent meeting, the Peru Parks and Recreation Board discussed the Rotary Club's efforts to expand the Rotary Park pavilion.

Below are the minutes from this meeting, as provided by the board.

07/12/2016 Meeting, City Hall

The meeting was called to order at 6:44 pm by Board Chairman, Ray Zborowski. Board members inattendance were Janice Grabowski, Steve Michelini, Linda Dzierzynski, and Simon Kampwerth Jr. Absent

were Bill Steve and Larry Weide. Recreation Director, Lynda Kasik was present.

Guests: Pastor Cameron and Amy Graper from AX Church. Pastor Cameron Graper showed a videopresentation of the volunteer efforts at the local parks. It was the goal of Hope Week to serve thecommunity in a radical way in a short amount of time. 220 volunteers provided 1413 hours of servicethroughout area parks. Peru benefited from 412 hours of service. $8,500 was donated by Ax Church outof their general budget for the projects. Pastor Graper stated that next year the church volunteerswould like to extend their volunteer hours during the week leading up to Father’s Day to 2000+ hours.

He suggested we start a list of our priority projects and announced that it was an honor to serve thecommunity. Following Pastor’s presentation Ray Zborowski on behalf of the Peru Parks and RecreationBoard presented Pastor Cameron Graper with a plaque expressing our appreciation.

Reports: A motion to accept the minutes from the 06/14/2016 meeting was moved by Janice, secondedby Steve and passed unanimously. Motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report dated 05/31/2016 wasmoved by Janice, seconded by Simon and passed unanimously. A second motion to approve the

Treasurer’s report dated 06/30/16 was moved by Janice, seconded by Steve, also passing unanimously.

Communications:

Ray announced:

We were short volunteers for the bouncy houses so we needed to hire three personnel for four hoursfrom Space Walk of East Peoria at a cost of $20 per hour to insure safety and supervision at the sites.

Ray announced a verbal communication from a couple staying at Starved Rock stating how impressedthey were with Peru’s Pickleball Court. Janice read a communication from Kevin Cregier praising MayorHarl and the City of Peru for their progressiveness and the excellent Picklbeball facility at WashingtonPark.

Ray announced that the Challenger Sign was installed by Jack Hughes at Veteran’s Park.

New Business:

Recap Movie in the Park – Approximately 150 attendees. Eight minions raffled off.

Touch a Truck – 24 entries – at 1:30 Life Flight Helicopter landed and stayed for 45 minutes.

Fireworks, well attended, approximately 10,000 attendees. Suggestion: next year designate onebounce house limited to little children under 38 inches or so. There were 7 misfires by Melrose

Pyrotechnics.

Steve will check with Mr. Tomaczewski to see if there is any interest in renting us his property for nextyear’s firework show.

Lynda announced the numbers were good for camps and recreation. She will have firm numbers topresent at the August meeting.

Simon applauded Lynda Kasik’s efforts in coordinating and executing our major events.

Update on Splash Pad: it was announced at a City council meeting that the City of Peru will match up toa total of $500,000 toward the Splash Pad project.

Unfinished Business:

The purchase of playground equipment for Washington Park was tabled until the August meeting.

After some discussion over a second bid from C.R. Peterson Inc. for court resurfacing , a potentialmotion to accept bids for court resurfacing/striping was tabled until next month’s meeting. Janice wasto try to get the vendors to quote the same items and materials so as to compare bids more fairly.

Discussion still pending as to whether the race hosted by the YMCA and our Rec Board will be held thisyear. This item will be placed on next month’s agenda.

Public Comment

Simon stated that the Rotary Club is leading efforts to make the pavilion at Rotary Park larger.
