The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) men's golf team opened its 2016 season with a sixth-place showing in the Highland “36” tournament Friday at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport.
IVCC had a team score of 664, according to the school's athletics website. College of DuPage and Black Hawk College tied for first, at 610.
Nine teams competed in the meet, according to the Highland athletics website.
Individually for IVCC, Carter Piercy shot a 159 (77-82) to lead the team, followed by Connor Soenksen (86-82) and Marv Pflibsen (84-84) at 168, Bobby Morse (81-88) at 169 and Joey Dudek (88-101) at 189.
Dennis Reedy of Black Hawk was the meet medalist, with a 143 (72-71).
IVCC was scheduled to compete in the Carl Sandburg Classic today at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg, followed by the Frye Lake Classic on Friday at Frye Lake Resort in Sherrard.
The next action for IVCC is the Duane Chaney Classic at 1:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Byron Hills Golf Course in Port Byron.
