LaSalle-Peru Township HSD board provides Advanced Placement update

LaSalle-Peru Township High School District 120 Board of Education met Sept. 8 to provide an Advanced Placement update.

Here is the meeting's agenda, as provided by the board: 

"LaSalle-Peru Township High School is governed by a School Board consisting of 7 members. The Board’s powers and duties include the authority to adopt, enforce, and monitor all policies for the management and governance of the District’s schools. Official action by the Board may only occur at a duly called and legally conducted meeting at which a quorum is physically present."

MINUTES LASALLE-PERU TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, DISTRICT #120 PROGRAMS COMMITTEE MEETING THRUSDAY. SEPTEMBER 8, 2016

CALL TO ORDER Dr. Rose Marie Lynch, Committee chair, called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL PRESENT: Dr. Rose Marie Lynch, Chair of Programs, Mrs. Carol Alcorn and Mr. Dennis O'Keefe. OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Mr. Steven Wrobleski, Superintendent, Mrs. Ingrid Cushing, Associate Principal for Teaching and Learning and Mrs. Julie Bleck, Board Secretary.

REVIEW AND APPROVE OF MINUTES FROM AUGUST 15, 2016 MEETING MOTION by Mr. O'Keefe, seconded by Dr. Lynch to approve the minutes from August 15, 2016 meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Mr. O'Keefe, Dr. Lynch and Mrs. Alcorn. Voting Nay: None. The motion carried.

ACT UPDATE Mrs. Cushing updated the Committee on the ACT summary on the results of 2015-2016 Class. The Composite score for State average was 20.8 with LP score averaging at 20.3. This is LP's highest score in 9 years and with the gap closing between LP and the State average. Mrs. Cushing also discussed percentages of LP students ready for college-level coursework, average ACT Mathematics scores by course sequence and average ACT Science Scores by course Sequence.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT UPDATE Mr. Wrobleski updated the Committee on LP being selected to be published in the Washington Post Annual AP Challenge Index. Mr. Wrobleski communicated with Mr. Jay Mathews, the Washington Post’s education reporter, to confirm this. The AP Challenge Index measures how rigorous a high School is based on the numbers of AP test takers.

SAT TESTING SCHEDULE PROPOSAL Mrs. Cushing updated the Committee on the State of Illinois shifting from the ACT testing to SAT-Suite of Assessments. Previously LP used a number of tests, such as; Explore, MAP, PARCC and ACT to better understand our students. Now the replaced testing will be; Freshman, 8th graders will take the PSAT 8/9, Sophomores will take the PSAT and Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT.

ACCEPT TO RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVE OF SAT SUITE OF ASSESSMENTS TESTING ON APRIL 5, 2017 FOR 9-11 GRADERS TO BE TEST FOR HALFA DAY. AND 12 GRADERS WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE MOTION by Mrs. Alcorn, seconded by Mr. O'Keefe to accept to recommend the Board of Education approve of SAT Suite of Assessments testing on April 5, 2017 for 9th-11th graders to be tested for half a day, and 12" graders will not be in attendance as presented. Voting Aye: Mrs. Alcorn, Mr. O'Keefe and Dr. Lynch. Voting Nay: None. The motion carried.

TO AND THROUGH COMMITTEE UPDATE Mr. Wrobleski updated the committee on LP being invited to be a part of the University of Chicago's To & Through Project as a pilot school. This project will entail only document sending and Will last 9 months until April 30, 2017. The information will be used to track the success of our freshman level students through high school and beyond graduation. This information collected will be used as a baseline of numbers for what works for the students success.

OTHER Mr. Wrobleski updated the committee on the recent meeting held with Dr. Jerry Corcoran, President of Illinois Valley Community College. The discussion was on I.V.C.C.’s new Agricultural Program. A meeting will be setup with I.V.C.C.'s newest Agricultural instructor. Discussion on follow up meeting with Mr. Lucas Allan, State Ag Representative on Curriculum.
