The city of Peru Public Services Committee met Oct. 24 to purchase a portable ice rink.

MINUTES
Chairman Waldorf made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 10, 2016 Public
Services Committee Meeting. Alderman Lukosus seconded the motion; motion carried.

WATER & SEWER
City Engineer Eric Carls informed there are new mandated NPDES Permit requirements for the
West and East Waste Water Treatment Plants. The estimated cost to fulfill these requirements is
$275,000, but Carls determined the Engineering Department can reduce it by $100,000 by doing
some of the work.
City Engineer Carls also discussed Northern Partners sewer service; he is concurring with the
issuance of variance for a septic holding tank. Carls will send a letter to this LaSalle County
Health Department reflecting this.

AIRPORT
Alderman Lukosus informed the crack sealing and markings project is complete and has made a
major improvement. He also added there are large cracks on the taxi-way that will need to be
addressed in the future.
CEMETERY
City Engineer Carls provided an update; the architect has provided an 80% plan submittal and
once reviewed he will have a better idea of the timeline.
PARKS & RECREATION
Alderman Sapienza reported the Halloween parade was this past weekend and the next event is
the Christmas parade.
The motion to authorize purchase of Porta-Rinx Kit (portable ice rink) from Damian J. Products,
LLC in the amount of $5,394.00 was discussed and tabled. It will be discussed at the next Rec
board meeting.
CODE ENFORCEMENT/ BUILDING & ZONING
PSM King informed there is a seminar on abandoned properties in Princeton on Wednesday,
November 2nd.
ENGINEERING
City Engineer Eric Carls provided updates on the following current projects:
• Area 3 Phase 1 – paving of areas south of Rt. 6 and Grant from 4th to 5th are being
prepared. Paving these areas will be required prior to winter shut-down.
• Venture Drive – items on the punch list are being completed.
• Plank Rd – project is mobilizing; will begin by the end of the month.
• Water St. – work has begun; rock column installation was delayed; no project changes
are anticipated.
• Tank Painting- additional pitting is present; additional painting to be done to interior; we
will be receiving a proposal for a change order. Work continues.
• General Fund Streets & MFT- identifying problem areas; anticipate being out for bid by
early next year.
Engineer Carls discussed the fuel tank spraying and is going to gather costs to enclose the tanks
in a building and to purchase new tanks.
BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
City Engineer Eric Carls provided an update about the Veteran’s Park Baseball Diamond project;
the City only received one bid for materials at $9,780 and no quotes for removal and installation.
Carls is reaching out to contractors for quotes for the removal and installation. He added a
maintenance procedure will need to be outlined to avoid the drainage issue in the future.
OLD BUSINESS
ASM Bernabei discussed the budget for 2018; mandatory items are being identified and all
departments need to turn in items so prioritizing can be completed.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Mike Hart asked if there will be an open house for the new Public Works building; he was
answered yes; there are some small items to be completed first. He also inquired about the
purchase power adjustment on electric bills. There was a discussion
