Several athletes received sportsmanship awards during Putnam County High School's (PCHS) fall athletics banquet, held recently in the school's commons.
According to information provided by PCHS Athletic Director Christopher Newsome, the athletes receiving the awards were Savannah Tucker, freshman volleyballer; Madelyn Dzierzynski, junior-varsity volleyballer; Cassie Copeland, varsity volleyballer; Becky Ramey, cross-country; Kaitlyn Goetsch, girls golfer; and Mitch Aimone, boys golfer.
In other recent PCHS sports news, alumnus Harold Fay saw action in the first two scheduled games for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team.
According to athletics.uwplatt.edu, Fay played 15 minutes in an exhibition against Wisconsin recently in Madison. Fay, a junior guard, went 1 for 2 on free-throw attempts and made a steal.
In the Pioneers' first regular-season game, against Luther at home, Fay hit two free-throws in six minutes of playing time. The Pioneers won 69-39.
