The City of Ottawa is again offering a Christmas-tree disposal program, which begins soon.
After taking down their holiday trees, residents of Ottawa can discard them by taking them to the Riordan Pool parking lot beginning Saturday, Jan. 7. Trees can be dropped off through Jan. 14.
The parking lot entrance is on Utica Drive, one block north of the 600 block of E. Norris Drive. Trees should be left during daylight hours in the designated drop-off area at the parking lot. The service is for actual cut trees, not artificial trees.
City workers will chip the trees into mulch at various times during normal business hours. Ottawa will provide bags for anyone wanting to tag back of the fresh chips home for mulch.
Workers will offer assistance on a limited basis to help residents remove trees from their vehicles. All lights, ornaments and decorations must be removed from the trees before disposal.
The tree disposal and mulching service is free.
Ottawa also wishes happy holidays to its residents.
