Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) board of trustees member Laurie Bonucci has resigned.

“It has been a privilege and an honor to serve on the board with this dedicated, compassionate group of individuals including trustees and also staff members,” Bonucci said in a note to IVCC President Jerry Corcoran and Board Chairperson Melissa Olivero. “I am very hesitant to leave, but my personal life has shifted and I will not be able to attend meetings regularly. IVCC is such a vital part of our daily lives and it continues to meet and exceed the educational expectations of the students, the stakeholders and our community at large.”

Bonucci began a six-year term in 2013. She said some highlights of her time on the board include completion of the Peter Miller Community Technology Center and renovations to the Student Life space.

“Near and dear to my heart was the reinstatement of the agriculture program at the college, which is off to a fantastic start,” Bonucci said. “Ag is back at IVCC and that’s great news.”

The board will began discussions on filling the vacancy this month, according to Corcoran.

“I can assure you that it truly has been an honor to work with, and for Laurie,” he said. “We are a better college because of her thoughtfulness, strengths and passion for higher education. On behalf of tens of thousands of students and 380 employees, we are indebted to her dedicated service.”
