Somonauk ranked 175th in state in lottery ticket sales for March 2016

The Village of Somonauk had the 175th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of March 2016 -- down 30 spots from its February ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Somonauk was $31.22 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Illinois Valley Times, Somonauk generated $58,596.50 in net sales from its two lottery retailers in March 2016, compared to $63,872.50 in March 2015.

The Village of Somonauk is in DeKalb County, and has a population of 1,877, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Sandwich and Lake Holiday.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in March 2016 was $20,287.85.

Somonauk's top lottery retailer is Buds Citgo located at 150 E Market St, Somonauk, IL 60552.

Buds Citgo generated 56 percent of Somonauk's March 2016 lottery ticket sales and 3 percent of DeKalb County's sales that month, which was $1,481,013.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in DeKalb County in 2015 were Shabbona, Somonauk, Kirkland, Sandwich and Sycamore.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
