Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) is urging northeastern Illinois residents to spread the word about two upcoming programs being offered by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).
CMAP offers assistance in urban planning and development to the 284 municipalities in the northeastern Illinois region.
The 2017 Technical Assistance Symposium, co-hosted by CMAP and the Regional Transit Authority, is open to elected officials, municipal and county planners and their staff, community and civic organizations and consulting firms. Attendees will learn about technical assistance opportunities and hear from past award recipients about best practices. They will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the application process on a one-on-one basis.
The program, which will take place at Roosevelt University in Chicago on May 16, costs $30.
The Future Leaders in Planning development program is open to high school students with an interest in promoting their communities and the region as a whole. The free program teaches teenagers about the issues shaping the region and gives them a chance to have a voice in the solutions.
The program begins in July. Those interested should apply by May 15.
