Peru Elementary School District 124 Board of Education Building and Grounds Committee met April 4.
Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:
Present: Simon Kampwerth, Rob Ankiewicz, & C.G. Pillai
Absent: None
Others Present: Mark Cross
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Simon Kampwerth at 4:35 p.m.
• Mr. Cross provided the committee with a list of larger items for the committee to consider as a Building and Grounds Maintenance Plan through 2020. It was suggested to tie these items in with the district’s new strategic plan when it is adopted later in the month. The committee agreed that smaller, routine maintenance items were not necessary for inclusion.
• Items for inclusion at Northview include the installation of remaining security film, installation of a privacy curtain in the nurse's office, remediation of condensation in the kitchen freezer and remediation of the water issue in the storm water detention area with the installation of a concrete pad. Mr. Cross is working with the architect and contractor on how best to manage this issue, as water never completely drains from the site. The committee also discussed the extension of a sidewalk at Northview that will help prevent people from walking across the grass in a particular area before arriving at the main entrance.
• Items for inclusion at Parkside include the installation of remaining security film, updating the cameras and security system, replacement wiring for the gymnasium scoreboard, consideration of some type of water barrier between the ceiling in the MDF room and the addition of running water and a sink in the concession area. Mr. Cross will seek pricing on these items.
• Mr. Cross also recommended for safety and long term cost considerations a maintenance agreement for the bleachers, basketball goals and gym divider in both buildings. The committee agreed that it would be prudent to pursue this and find out costs and proposals.
• The committee also discussed ideas and plans Mr. Kampwerth and Mr. Cross have discussed to develop the outdoor physical education and recreation space at Parkside. This includes the installation of one or two backstops, and working with the City of Peru to develop the concept of a small park or play area and creating a walking/running track or trail on the property that would benefit not only our students, but the west side residents as well. This will also be discussed with the Board as a whole.
• The committee finished the meeting by looking at the potential issues in the MDF room, as well as the concession area.
The committee adjourned at 5:44 p.m.
