Reading could reap a big reward for one lucky student and his classmates this fall in Illinois District 90.
Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) recently launched his "Summer Reading Club," which encourages students to read eight books during their break.
“Students who read over the summer are better prepared to return to school in the fall,” Demmer said, according to a press release. “Reading is fun, as well as being great for education, enjoyment, and lifelong learning. I am proud to join area schools and libraries in helping promote summer reading to area students.”

Students who participate will collect a program brochure and be expected to read all of the books of their choice by Aug. 11, with books longer than 150 pages counting as two books. Parents or guardians will sign off on the brochure, which must be submitted to Demmer’s office by the end of the program.
All students who finish receive a certificate signifying their completion of the program, and one lucky winner will also earn a party with his or her entire class in the fall.
Brochures for the club are available at Demmer’s Rochelle District Office and online at tomdemmer.com.
