Basketball(1000)

Young hoopsters — both boys and girls — can hone their court skills at upcoming summer camps at Illinois Valley Community College, the school announced recently.

IVCC men's head coach Chris Herman will run things on the boys' side, while ladies coach Tom Ptak, assistant coach Sammy Kromm and former player Daniela Pavlovich will direct the camp for the girls.

The boys' camp will run June 26-29, with players in grades three through five gathering from 10 a.m. to noon, and those in grades six through eight taking the court from 1 to 3 p.m. The focus will be on fundamentals, offensive team concepts, shooting, ball handling, individual and team defense and league play.

The girls' camp will take place July 10-13, with grades three through five meeting from 9 to 11 a.m., grades six through eight playing from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and grades nine through 12 on the court from 2 to 4 p.m. The grade school camp will specialize in dribbling, passing, shooting and fundamentals, while the high school session will focus on skill development, post work, shooting, footwork, moving without the ball and screen-and-roll.

Both camps cost $50, and sign-ups are available now. More information is available on the ivcc.edu..
