Wyatt Anderson proved recently that the past can hold some promise for the future.

For his efforts, the Ottawa Township High School senior earned the chance to be an honorary page for the Illinois House for a day.

State Rep. Jerry Long (R-Streator) hosted Anderson after choosing Anderson's essay harkening back to Franklin Roosevelt as the best in a contest that challenged students in Long's district to envision a new law for Illinois.

Drawing on the public works aspects of the New Deal, Anderson proposed a law mandating infrastructure improvement projects in the state on an annual basis, which he argued would benefit the state both through the improvements themselves and jobs creation.

During his time at the Capitol, Anderson got to observe the House in session and even participate. At the end of the day, he received an Illinois House of Representatives certificate of recognition.
