State Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) is inviting Morris residents to attend a seminar on how to avoid identity theft on Aug. 21 at the Morris Public Library.
According to a post on Welter’s website, the event will feature professionals from the Illinois attorney general’s office and will provide attendees with handouts and legislative brochures. Identity theft is a significant problem, affecting approximately 15.4 million people in the United States each year, according to Welter. Many of these victims are senior citizens, who are encouraged to attend the seminar.
The event will include information on how to protect credit card and Social Security information, as well as other personal and financial details that could enable criminals to steal a person’s identity.
The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Public Library on Liberty Street. Those wishing to attend should RSVP by calling Welter’s office at 815-416-1475 or by visiting his website at www.repwelter.com.
