Village of Sheridan Regular Board met June 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board of Trustees met on the above date with the following members present: Peggy Arneson, Bill Clemens, Larry Ryg, Jon Walker, Randy McMurray and Jeff Wilhelm.

Bills for May 2017 in the amount of $27,326.91 were presented for payment. Jeff Wilhelm motioned to approve the bills as presented. Bill Clemens 2nd. Motion Carried.

Minutes for May 2017 were presented. Randy McMurray motioned to approve the minutes as written. Peggy Arneson 2nd. Motion Carried.

Randy McMurray gave the finance report for May 2017 with an ending balance of $1,109,288.27. Peggy Arneson motioned to approve the finance report. Jeff Wilhelm 2nd. Motion Carried.

Committee Reports:

Jeff Wilhelm, Streets Committee, stated that the village dump truck has been sold for $10,500 with monies going into streets reserve for other equipment purchases. Jeff received pricing on streets project for work on Robinson Street at railroad crossings. He also received probable costs on the MFT/streets project from Robert Hamilton Engineering totaling $207,800. MFT monies previously approved were $85,000 from MFT funds. He proposed to hold off on resurfacing work to Robinson Street until next year and focusing on sidewalks at railroad crossings, parking areas at the Corner Tap and Veterans Memorial. He stated insurance would be needed for the sidewalk work to the railroad crossings in the amount of $20,000. Jeff motioned to put in a change order to remove resurfacing work from the initial proposal and have the approaches at the crossings done, construction of parking stalls at the Veterans Memorial and the parking area in front of the Corner Tap. Randy McMurray 2nd. All in favor. Jeff will contact Robert Hamilton to work on a change order to get this out for bid.

Jon Walker, Sewer Committee, had no report.

Larry Ryg, Zoning Committee, stated having 2 permits issued at $75.00 for a fence and one reroof.

Bill Clemens, Police Committee, gave the police report.

Peggy Arneson, Parks Committee, stated having flowers planted in the new planters.

New Business:

Madonna Wheeler asked the board for donation for the Community Clubs Movie in the Park on July 3rd for a total of $500.00. She also inquired about having a DJ set up at the school park and play music for a few hours before the fireworks. Mayor Figgins told her to speak with the grade school on this. Randy motioned to help them out with the $500.00 for the movie and if a DJ is approved through the school he would like to donate up to $200.00 for the music. Larry Ryg 2nd. Motion Carried.

Randy McMurray proposed to host a Community Relations Day to give something back to the community with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, water and lemonade. He would like to do this before school goes back in. Jeff motioned to host a Community Relations Day on August 5th from 12-3PM. Bill Clemens 2nd. Motion Carried. Randy and Cathy will work on fliers for this.

Maintenance of the Veterans Memorial was discussed with Terry Hapke retiring. The board decided to have the village maintenance take care of the upkeep of the Veterans Memorial. Larry Ryg motioned to reimburse the Veterans Memorial fund for the mower that had been purchased for this. Peggy Arneson 2nd. Motion Carried.

Mayor Figgins introduced An Annual Prevailing Wage Ordinance. Randy McMurray motioned to approve Ordinance 2017-19. Jon Walker 2nd. Motion Carried.

Mayor Figgins introduced A Resolution Accepting Lowest Bid for Removal of Trees as a Public Works Project. Two bids were received. Don McNelis would like to meet with Jeff concerning several of the trees in the cemetery marked for removal. They will discuss on Saturday. If changes are needed a change order will be put in. Randy McMurray motioned to approve Resolution 2017-20 with the lowest bid received from Steve Piper and Sons. Jon Walker 2nd. Motion Carried.

Mayor Figgins introduced A Resolution Approving Bid for Annual Sidewalk Work with Dean’s Dynamic being the low bidder. Dean’s still has remaining work from 2016 project. Randy motioned to approve Resolution 2017-21 to begin once the 2016 project is completed. Jon Walker 2nd. Motion Carried.

Mayor Figgins introduced A Resolution Authorizing Street Closing and Variance from Municipal Code Restrictions for July 23rd Bag Tournament in Support of Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. Larry Ryg motioned to approve Resolution 2017-22. Peggy Arneson 2nd. Randy McMurray opposed. Motion Approved and Carried.

Public Comment:

Linda Zirzow requested putting information on fines for dog waste in the village Info-Line. The next one goes out August 1st and will be put in.

David Bardson wanted to thank Terry Hapke for his service to the Veterans Memorial.

James Holloway inquired about past horseshoe tournaments at the grade school. Those that hosted the event have retired. He was informed of some sanctioned horseshoe courts in Millington if interested.

Randy McMurray stated Serena’s fishing club would like to have a table set up selling food in front of the hair salon on the 4th of July to raise funds for the club. The board had no problems with this.

There being no further business, Bill Clemens motioned to adjourn the meeting. Jeff Wilhelm 2nd. Motion Carried and the meeting adjourned.
