Seneca Community Consolidated School District 170 Board of Education met July 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board of Education met for their regular scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m. on July 20th, 2016 at the Seneca Grade School North Campus Board Room located at 175 Walnut Street, Seneca, IL 61360.

1. Roll call, reading and approval of regular, closed minutes, treasurer’s report, paying of monthly bills and investment report was made.

2. Hearing of Citizens: No comments

3. Hearing of Teachers: Erica Hepner, 4th grade teacher, is started this week teaching 4th and 5th grade summer school students. She has also been busy making the switch to teaching the fourth grade curriculum for next year. Jycee Feiner, 4th grade teacher, is working on new assessments. She is also looking forward to working with Mrs. Hepner and mapping out the school year.

4. Board moved to approve the disposal of executive recordings from July 2014 through December of 2014.

5. Superintendent Misener updated the board on summer projects. The painting and cleaning is completed at the north campus. There will be asbestos abatement needed at the Morganflash house before demolition.

6. Wright & Associates has completed the North Campus life safety survey and has almost finished the South Campus survey. He has identified areas that might have potential action needed. Supt. Misener will forward the report once it arrives.

7. Board moved to approve the resolution to transfer $190,000.00 from the Operations and Maintenance Fund to the Capital Projects Fund.

8. Board moved to approve the quote for copier services from Konica Minolta. The five year lease option will lock in service cost for 3 years and a cap increase on the service at 5% for the final two years of the agreement.

9. Board moved to accept the SGS Student Growth Plan and template as presented by Supt. Misener. Teachers have approved this plan prior to leaving for summer vacation. This plan follows the guidelines as stipulated by the Illinois State Board of Education.

10. Supt. Misener shared the letter from Mr. Herman regarding the softball co-op with Milton Pope.

11. Principal McGhee reported that summer school started July 18th, with approximately 45 students attending, and will run until August 4th. Mrs. Hovious, Mrs. Stuedemann, and

Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Hepner and Mr. Bilyeu are teaching summer school. New student registration is Friday, July 29th, from 9:00-3:00 at the North Campus, Oak Street Entrance. LEASE Preschool Screening will by August 9th at the North Campus. Parents need to call Central Office to schedule an appointment.

12. Principal Severson reported that South Campus hosted many sports campus for our students. Girls softball starts July 25th, and baseball the following week August 1st. He welcomed back Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Craig who both will be returning at the start of the school year

13. Board moved to go into Executive Session at 7:35 p.m. for legal and personnel.

14. Board moved to return to Open Session at 7:52 p.m.

15. Board moved to hire Nate Stuedemann, assistant maintenance, for the 2016-2017 school year.

16. Board moved to hire Mary Claggett, teacher aide, for the 2016-2017 school year.

17. Board moved to approve the following volunteers for the 2016 season, Nicole Pihl, softball and Rich Hamilton, baseball.

18. Regarding the softball co-op with Milton Pope, no action was taken.

19. Committee Report: Nothing to Report

20. Communications: Mrs. Deanna McGeorge sent a thank you to the board for the opportunity to work at Seneca Grade School and the gift cards received for retirement.

21. Old Business: Supt. Misener reviewed revenue and expense for the 2015-2016 school year.

22. New Business: Nothing to report

23. Board moved to adjourn at 8:20 p.m.
