The Illinois boys gymnastics state finals have a new home lined up for the next three seasons: Hoffman Estates High School.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) recently announced that Hoffman agreed to act as host at its Aug. 21 board meeting.

“Hoffman Estates High School is thrilled to continue out partnership with the IHSA by hosting the boys gymnastic state finals,” Steve Lacni, athletic director at Hoffman Estates, said in a news release. “We look forward to showcasing the best boys’ gymnasts in the state, while continuing to promote the great sport of gymnastics.”

Craig Anderson

Hoffman Estates has never hosted the gymnastics finals, which have been held at Hillsdale Central the past four years, but it is no stranger to state championships, having hosted the boys volleyball championships since 1995. It has also held the 2A and 3A boys soccer finals since 2013.

The IHSA started governing gymnastics as a high school sport in 1958, a year after the University of Illinois ceased sponsoring the sport for high school athletes. The university hosted state finals meets from 1952 through 1957.

“We are excited about the next chapter of the IHSA boys gymnastics state finals at Hoffman Estates,” IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson said in a statement. “Hoffman Estates has shown tremendous pride in their efforts to put on first class IHSA state final events, and we know that boys gymnastics will be next IHSA sport to benefit from their passion. We also want to thank athletic director Dan Jones and the entire Hillsdale Central community for all they have done in hosting the past four years.”
