Watchdog group says tables have turned on former La Salle attorney Towne

Handcuffs

Someone needs to get former LaSalle County State’s Attorney Brian Towne a mirror and take away his shovel, the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW) contend on their Illinois Leaks website.

The mirror will let Towne see that he is being hypocritical regarding the charges of abuse of power he faces, while taking away his shovel will keep him from digging himself a deeper hole, the ECW suggests.

“While Brian Towne is crying his indictment is an abuse of power and dirty politics, let us refresh his memory and our reader’s memory about abuse of power and dirty politics, all at the hands of Brian Towne when he was the state’s attorney,” Watchdogs co-founder Kirk Allen wrote, introducing a series of articles the group has published about Towne.

The ECW has reported extensively on Towne, including his creation of the State’s Attorney Felony Enforcement (SAFE) unit, which has been deemed illegal by the Illinois Supreme Court, and the distribution of assets seized by that force.

“Now that he has been indicted on 17 felony counts, we find his claim that these charges are nothing but an abuse of power and dirty politics nothing short of hypocrisy,” Allen wrote. “Tonight’s announcement on the indictment of Brian Towne appears to validate everything we wrote over the last year on him and his illegal police department.”
