Seneca Township High School District 160 met August 9.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

A meeting of the Co-Curricular Committee was held on August 9, 2017 at 5:30p.m. The meeting

was called to order with the following members present: Ron Frye, Sara Olson and Cory Yandell.

Also present: Jim Carlson and Steve Haines.

A. Public Comment

There was no public comment.

B. Co-Curricular Committee

1. 2017-18 Updated Co-curricular List

Reviewed the 2017-18 Updated Co-curricular List. Gavin Kurtz has been added as a

volunteer football coach and Assistant Wrestling Coach, Danielle Marques added as an

Assistant Cheerleading Coach, and removed the Intramural Position from the list due to

not enough student interest.

2. 2017-18 Objectives- New Conference

Mr. Haines reviewed his three objectives: 1. Establish athletic schedules for 2018-19 by

the end of September; 2. Develop a Band Fest, Choral Fest, Math Team Competition, and

Student Leadership Day; and 3. Deal with other miscellaneous scheduling quirks and

adjustments.

3. Initial Fall Sports Numbers

Mr. Haines reviewed the initial Fall Sports Numbers. 191 students are participating in a

fall sport.

4. 2016-17 Measurable Goals

Mr. Haines reviewed the co-curricular measurable goals. The school met the participation

goal. 80.47% of the students participated in at least one co-curricular activity. The

school also met the goal for its random drug testing program. 100% of students randomly

drug tested experienced negative results. The next year for the sports interest survey is

2018-2019.

5. Review of the Random Drug Testing Procedures

Mr. Haines reviewed the Random Drug Testing Procedures. Seneca High School does

not choose which students to randomly test. Mr. Haines sends student numbers to OSF to

be included in the drug testing program. OSF sends Mr. Haines 15 numbers

corresponding to students' names. The first 1 0 are selected for testing. If a student is

absent, the first of the five remaining numbers is tested instead. There is a rumor that

SHS hand picks students to be tested. This is 100% untrue.

6. Impact on Social Media

Mr. Haines told the committee that Social Media has positives and negatives. The issue

is not with the media, it is with the users being irresponsible. He reviewed several

examples of the public using social media to criticize Seneca High School without merit.

C. Other

Mr. Haines announced that the Homecoming Football game will be held on Saturday,

September 30, 2017. The parade will begin at 9:00AM, the preliminary game, a

freshman game, will be held at 11:00 AM, and the Varsity game will be held at 1:00

PM. The dance will be held at 8:00PM. This is a "retro" homecoming and it is hoped

that the experiment will attract alumni.

D. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 6:04p.m.
