Putnam County awarded $24,998 by IEMA

Grant

Putnam County recently received a $24,998 grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).

In total, IEMA designated $500,000 in funding, dispersed across 32 counties, as part of a campaign to bolster local Emergency Operations Centers. The 32 county emergency centers that received awards were selected from among 47 original applications, based on need.

“Emergency Operations Centers are the nerve center for coordinating emergency response efforts,” James Joseph, director of IEMA, said. “We focused these grant awards on counties that most needed basic technology and other equipment to help them serve their residents during emergencies.”

These disbursements are designated for use on technological and operational assets, ranging from computers, printers and phones to office supplies and furniture.

Prerequisites for consideration included maintaining an up-to-date emergency plan and operational emergency center, in addition to National Incident Management System compliance.

Local emergency management and public safety reps analyzed the submissions to determine the funding priorities before deciding on the finalists.
