Spain on hand as Walmart offers $301,000 to help Illinois' hungry

Grant

Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) took part in a grant-check presentation to the Peoria division of the Midwest Food Bank recently, according to a press release.

The Walmart Foundation gave a grant of $120,000 to the Peoria division as part of a total of $301,000 provided to five organizations that focus on hunger relief in Central Illinois.

"The Walmart Foundation's donation to the Midwest Food Bank and other Illinois hunger relief organizations is heartwarming,” Spain said on his website. “This is much needed support coming up on a season when help is needed the most. Hunger is a daily reality for too many Illinois families and that's why donations like the Walmart Foundation's are so important to the communities they serve. Their contribution is to be commended."

Midwest Food Bank plans to buy another semi-tractor with its grant money to get more food products delivered from around the nation. More than 500,000 people will be served by the grant, with more than 300 programs in Illinois expected to be helped as well.
