City of Peru Park and Recreation Committee met Oct. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Ray Zborowski called the meeting to order at 6:30

Attendance: Board Chairman-Ray Zborowski, Board Members- Janice Grabowski, Simon Kampwerth, Steve Michelini, Bill Steve, Linda Dzierzynski, and John Fusinatto and Recreation Director- Seth Brannan

Absent: None

I- Guest

Disc Golf- Dan Nagle, Wes Black, Pete Etscheid; Connecting Point- Jeff Borelli

Disc Golf:

Pete E started off by expressing his thanks to the Park and Recreation Board and the City of Peru for the assistance and efforts towards bringing disc golf to Baker Lake. It was confirmed that park and recreation would complete a purchase for the baskets. Volunteer for disc golf would mark the tee boxes and the city would prepare the tee box area for concrete. Once tee boxes are set and yardages are finalized for each hole, park and recreation will order the signs that will be set alongside the tee boxes.

Connecting Point:

Jeff B stated that he and other local businesses used to be involved in the Peru parades and would be interesting in learning more about once again getting involved. This would be a good way to promote local businesses in downtown Peru. Discussion was had about possible options and future involvement. Further discussion will be tabled until the November meeting.

II- Previous Minutes

A motion to approve the minutes of the September 19, 2017 meeting was made by Janice G and seconded by Simon K. The motion passed unanimously and all were in favor.

III- Revenue and Expense Report

Bill S reported on the revenue and expense report dated September 30, 2017. A motion to approve the report was made by Janice G and seconded by Steve M. The motion passed unanimously and all were in favor.

IV- New Business

Communications:

Seth B reported that he received an email from Jason Depenbrock with Peru Youth Soccer. The email was in regards to Baker Lake soccer fields and specifically the work that parks and maintenance did this

year. Jason thanked them for the great job that was done in always having the fields prepared and looking great. He appreciated all the work that was done. Seth B will forward the email to Jeff King.

Seth B reported that he had spoken with Jeff Shaw from Peru Little League. Jeff stated that they were able to move forward with the projects presented to the city. The projects were previously discussed at the September meeting.

Purchase Equipment for Disc Golf:

Discussion was had in regards to purchasing necessary equipment for disc golf at Baker Lake. A motion to approve the purchase of equipment, not to exceed $10,000 was made by Janice G and seconded by Linda D. The motion passed unanimously.

LP and St Bede Homecoming Parade:

Seth B reported on the City of Peru float entry into the both the LP and St Bede homecoming parade. Special thanks to Mayor Harl and his wife for being on the float was mentioned. Ray Z also thanked Simon Kampwerth, Mike Sapienza, and Seth Brannan for their efforts on preparing the float.

V- Unfinished Business

Disc Golf Course update at Baker Lake:

Updates on disc golf were previously discussed in the guest section and equipment sections of the October minutes.

Plans for the Halloween Parade:

Plans for the Halloween Parade were discussed by the board. Steve M will organize a straw maze and provide pumpkins to be painted. Ray Z coordinated with Peru Fire, Police, and Ambulance to be in the parade. Peru Fire will also provide rides in the aerial bucket at Washington Park. Face Painting, concessions, treat bags, and games will also be provided at Washington Park.

Christmas Lights:

Christmas Lights was proposed to be at Centennial Park this year. Steve M and Simon K met with Jeff King and the proposal will be brought up at the public works meeting.

Possible motion to hire Harmony Guaranteed Barber Shop Quartet will be tabled to the November meeting.

VII- Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made at 7:50 by Janice G and seconded by Simon K. The motion passed unanimously.
