Rep. Ryan Spain's (R-Peoria) legislative support of manufacturing jobs has won him the Technology and Manufacturing Association’s (TMA) highest rating.
Announced last month, Spain’s 100 percent score was for voting in favor of manufacturing issues. He is one of only 10 General Assembly members to receive that rating, according to a press release on the lawmaker’s website.
“I am proud to support manufacturing in Illinois and the jobs this industry brings to our residents,” Spain said in the release. “In a time when so many jobs are leaving Illinois to our surrounding states, I think it’s important that legislators not just talk the talk, but walk the walk when it comes to keeping manufacturing jobs right here in Illinois.”

The award comes at a time when the TMA has seen legislative support for manufacturing decline, the release said. During the past two years, the number of legislative members who have ratings of 75 percent or better fell from 42 percent in 2015 to 23 percent this year, according to the press release.
Spain’s announcement blamed what he called “bad public policies” for declining state population and job loss.
“Those moving out of state include members of a critically needed, trained workforce that will be badly needed in the years ahead,” he said in the release.
