Princeton High School District 500 Board of Education met Dec. 20.

The Princeton High School Board of Education, District #500, met in Regular Session on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 in the Learning Resource Center. Board Members present: Gary Hanna, Colleen Sailer, Terry Smallwood, Al Taylor and John Young. Board Members Absent: None. Also in attendance were Kirk Haring, Superintendent; Andrew Berlinski, Principal; and Jeff Ohlson, Assistant Principal and Activity Director.
John Young, President, called the Regular Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. He welcomed guests and the media. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance. There was no Public Comment.
Consent Agenda
The Consent Agenda contained Minutes of the November 20, 2017 Regular Monthly Meeting; Monthly Bills; and Treasurer’s Reports. Gary Hanna motioned to approve the Consent Agenda items as presented, seconded by Colleen Sailer. The motion carried on a roll call vote: Al Taylor-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, Colleen Sailer-yes, Gary Hanna-yes, and John Young-yes.
Education and Administration
Assistant Principal’s Report – Mr. Ohlson stated there were eleven nominations for December students-of-the-month, and announced the six recipients: Cherokee Williams, Mason Goodrum, Abby Nord, Haley Nekola, Claire Schillaci, and Peyton Hammerich. These students received congratulations from the Board, and appreciation to the parents for their support.
Mr. Ohlson’s report was reviewed. The attendance rate for November 15th through December 13th was 91.7%, and 91.6% in 2016-2017. There were 116 disciplinary write-ups during the same period, 84 were attendance-related; with 166 total write-ups last year.
Activity Director Report - Mr. Ohlson’s report summarized extracurricular activities about Wrestling, Girls and Boys Basketball, and Band and Chorus Concerts.
Principal’s Report – Mr. Berlinski congratulated the nine seniors on the Illinois State Scholar recognition: Michaela Crowe, Margarita Gomez, Sara Grieff, Cydney Kelly, Kylee Mallery, Albert Sadiku, Zachary Welsh and Mikayla Wilhelm. First semester tests are scheduled for December 20 and 22, and January Institute plans were discussed.
Personnel – Gary Hanna made the motion, seconded by Terry Smallwood, to approve the appointment of Tyler Wood as Volunteer Wrestling Coach. Roll call: Colleen Sailer-yes, Al Taylor-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, Gary Hanna-yes and John Young-yes. Motion passed.
Board of Education Policy Manual Revisions – Mr. Haring reviewed proposed policy changes as a first reading. Action on the revisions will be at the January meeting.
Finance
2017 Tax Levy – The motion to approve the 2017 Tax Levy as presented was made by Al Taylor, seconded by Terry Smallwood, and approved on a roll call as follows: Colleen Sailer- yes, Gary Hanna-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, Al Taylor-yes, and John Young-yes.
Executive Session
Colleen Sailer made the motion at 6:15 p.m., seconded by Gary Hanna, to adjourn to Executive Session to discuss Personnel. Motion passed on a voice vote.
The motion to return to Regular Session at 6:50 p.m. was made by Colleen Sailer, seconded by Al Taylor, and carried with a voice vote.
Other Business
No other business was discussed.

The motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:55 p.m. was made by Al Taylor, seconded by Gary Hanna, and passed on a voice vote.
