Standing at the Senate floor podium, Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) was surrounded by a sea of winners – the Richwoods Lady Knights state basketball champions.
“It’s pretty cool to stand by these women who I can’t see because they are all so tall,” Weaver said of the Peoria high school champions on the Senate floor April 11.
Calling the Class Three A champs great, Weaver said he was going to keep it short and sweet since the niece of Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Westchester) was the team captain and he wanted to yield the time to the proud aunt and lawmaker at his side.

“I had a chance to visit with these young ladies briefly, and I know the team captain has a grade point of 3.9; all of these girls have really great points about them,” Weaver said.
The senator said he was proud to have them come from Peoria.
“You all have great futures ahead of you,” Weaver said.
