LaSalle County Safety Committee met May 2.

Call to Order

Old Business
• Update on Health & Safety Fair – June 6, 2018 – 11am-2pm
o Volunteers o Registration Protocol
• Building inspections taking place – finding many common workplace hazards such as power strip plugged into power strip, extension cords used as permanent power, walkways smaller than 28 inches wide, clutter, etc.
New Business:
• Spring cleaning time! Based on findings from the building inspections, we are recommending that departments take some time to clear out clutter (especially excess stored items under desks), purge unnecessary documents or create a time line to have older documents microfilmed.
• Fire Safety Inspections – Results from Ottawa Fire Department Inspection s conducted 4/13/18
Departmental Incidents:
• Month to Date – 3
o Sheriff – cut hand o Sheriff – auto accident o Sheriff – exposure to bodily fluids
• Year to Date – 19 with $126,088 incurred (a little over $100,000 for 1 claim)
o Last year through 4/30/17 14 reported claims

• May – Workplace Violence
• May Safe Personnel Course – Active Shooter
• June – Summer Safety
• June Safe Personnel Course – Heat Illness
The Health & Safety Fair will take place in lieu of the June Safety Committee Meeting
Next meeting is tentatively scheduled for July 10th at 2:30 in room 250.
