La Salle-Peru Township High School District 120 recently issued the following announcement.
Andrea Henry was overwhelmed Friday afternoon when she learned she had been named a Jostens Renaissance 2018 Educator of the Year. Andrea Henry celebrates being named Educator of the Year.
“I was just shocked. I’m still shaking. I can’t believe they all kept a secret from me for this long,” said Henry, a LaSalle-Peru Township High School counselor and co-coordinator of LP’s Renaissance program.
The surprise came during the LP Renaissance Recognition Rally, an event organized by the Renaissance program to recognize LP students, faculty, and staff for their accomplishments each semester, in Matthiessen Auditorium. Henry was nominated for the national award by the student leaders in the Renaissance program. Jostens Renaissance representatives Betty Mann and Rich Harner presented Henry the award in front of the full LP student body.
“It’s incredible to feel this much love and support,” Henry said. “And to know that what I’m doing and what I’ve done has made a difference.”
The Educator of the Year is annually awarded to individuals who have positively impacted the climate and culture of their school through Jostens Renaissance.
When nominating Henry, students wrote, “As an educator, a role model, an inspiration, a team-player, and a friend, Ms. Henry has, and undoubtedly will, continue to actively better our school, community, and nation through empathy, service, and a sincere love and adherence for others, and LP is undeniably a warmer, better place because of her.”
Henry’s co-coordinator of the LP Renaissance Program is Jean Ganze, a member of the Jostens Renaissance Hall of Fame.
Jostens Renaissance Educator of the Year winners will be recognized at the Awards Banquet at the Jostens Renaissance National Conference in July 2018, and will also receive conference registration, a hotel room during the conference, airfare, and an award ring and trophy. For over 25 years, Jostens Renaissance Education has helped schools across North America renew their climate and culture. This contributes to increased attendance and graduation rates, improved academic performance and behavior, higher teacher retention rates, and a boost in overall school spirit.
