City of Ottawa Special Events Committee met April 19.

City of Ottawa Special Events Committee met April 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Present: Michael Dougherty, Sherra Blakley, Peggy Schneider, Candy Moore, Don Gillette and Alaina Rivers.

Absent: Jim Reilly, Wayne Eichelkraut and Jani Eichelkraut.

Funding Requests:.

1) There were no new funding requests, but the committee was able to review the request by LaSalle County Cruisers to increase its allocation to $3,000. The group, which organizes Cruise Night, noted that its cost for entertainment and other expenses has gone up.

Action: On a motion by Candy and second by Sherra, the committee allocated $3,000 to 2018 Cruise Night. However, since the money comes out of the 2018 FY budget, it was not clear that the additional $500 would be allocated because the event’s line item has remained at $2,500 for a few years and the city has indicated that the SEC budget next year would be fixed at existing line items with no money for new funding requests.

Minutes: On a motion by Alaina and second by Sherra, minutes from the March meeting were approved.

Financial Report: There was no change: about $3,400 remains unallocated in the committee’s budget.

Action: On a motion by Don and second by Candy, the financial report was approved.

Old Business:

Spring Movie: Jani, who couldn’t be present, emailed the results of the spring movie. It was another success and proved enormously popular with the community. Nearly 500 children and adults filled four theaters at the Roxy Cinemas, with some relegated to folding chairs and others turned away because there was no room.

Music in the Park: The only change in the host lineup was that Candy will work with Jim on August 25 because Alaina is unavailable.

Adjournment: 6 p.m
