City of Peru Public Services Committee met May 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committe:

Committee Members Present: Alderman Dave Waldorf Chairman, Alderman Lukosus,

and Alderman Ballard present; Alderman Sapienza absent and Mayor Harl absent.

Other Persons Present: Deputy Clerk Stephanie Piscia, PSM Jeff King, ASM Doug Bernabei, Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski, Economic Development Director Bob Vickrey, Mike Perry of Chamlin and Associates and Chris Perra of T.E.S.T.

Minutes

Chairman Waldorf made a motion to approve Public Services Committee Meeting 4/9/18 Minutes. Alderman Lukosus seconded; motion carried.

Presentation

Economic Development Director Bob Vickrey provided the following update:

• Out-of-area developer hired local attorney regarding the new Tru Hotel and interested in the future of CVS building.

• Starved Rock Country interested in putting a drone up in our area and asked for a contribution

Chris Perra reported work is progressing with clarifier #2.

Streets & Alley

General Fund Street Program to begin Tuesday, May 8th.

Electric

Alderman Lukosus initiated a discussion regarding power line trimming along the rail to the

hydroelectric plant. Alderman Lukosus stated the trees are starting to be a problem; possibly could cause power failure. Alderman Lukosus stated it could cost approximately $70,000 to hire the work done and is not in the budget this year. PSM King stated he thinks the trimming should be held off until the trees hit full canopy, possibly late summer. Alderman Lukosus asked

Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski to provide further details. Kye reported there are eight miles of line along the railroad property that are difficult to get to in-house. Kye stated there is a company that will send a helicopter up to trim around the lines. Kye stated it would be difficult to have the electric department perform the work and soon will be tripping our breakers. Kye stated it would be well worth outsourcing it and would like to continue discussions.

Landfill

Airport

Alderman Lukosus reported the TBM Avenger event is progressing well. Alderman Lukosus stated that 15 TBM avengers has thus far committed. Alderman Lukosus stated there is a lot of interest in this event and if the weather is favorable, it could easily see 10,000 people attend. PSM Jeff King reported he is on top of the ground issues for the event.

Alderman Lukosus reported the city received permission from the stated to decommission the localizer that hasn t worked in two years.

Cemetery

PSM Jeff King stated they are getting ready for the Mother s Day weekend. ASM Doug Bernabei stated the cemetery looks better than it ever has. ASM Doug Bernabei reported the mausoleum repairs are in the final stages and suggested contacting the local funeral homes to give input on parking. City Engineer Eric Carls stated he is still trying to figure out what funds are left in the perpetual care fund to replace the road if possible. City Engineer Eric Carls also reported he wants the company to come back and buff out the floors.

Parks & Recreation

PSM Jeff King reported there will be a fence to go around the new electrical at Washington Park and received a bid from Illinois Valley Fence and Pool for $4,900. PSM Jeff King stated the fence will match the outside fence.

Code Enforcement

ASM Doug Bernabei reported the code enforcement program has been a positive thing and there has been a lot of work for Code Enforcement Officer Blake Frund, ASM Bernabei stated Blake has been coordinating with Building Inspector Tyler Dobrich. ASM Doug Bernabei instructed the committee to contact Blake with any issues.

Alderman Waldorf asked about the 1508 Peoria Street property and stated the residence hasn t had power in six months. ASM Bernabei state he will ask Building Inspector Tyler Dobrich to provide an update.

Buildings & Grounds

PSM Jeff King stated the city has begun watering the new trees at Washington Park and Centennial Park
