City of Peru Park and Recreation Board met April 10.
Here is the minutes provided by Board:
Ray Zborowski called the meeting to order at 6:35
Attendance: Board Chairman-Ray Zborowski, Board Members-Bill Steve, Linda Dzierzynski, John Fusinatto, Steve Michelini, Gena Wallin, and recreation director Seth Brannan.
Absent: Simon Kampwerth
I- Guest
Alderman- Mike Sapienza
II- Previous Minutes
A motion to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2018 meeting was made by Linda D and seconded by Gena
W. The motion passed unanimously.
III- Revenue and Expense Report
Bill S reported on the revenue and expense report dated March 31, 2018. Linda D noted that the proposed budget does not match what was posted to the city website. A motion to approve the report was made by John F and seconded by Gena W. The motion passed unanimously.
IV- New Business
Communications:
Linda D will get clarification on difference of budget submitted vs. budget posted and get back to the board.
Fireworks:
Peru fireworks will be moved back to Water Street this summer on July 3. The City of Peru wanted different language in contract with previous host. There will be a rain date of July 4th and if canceled it will not be made up. The City will be looking to CSO to see if they would organize a beer garden and food. The option of having a family area where the power plant used to be is being looked into.
Windscreen:
The windscreens are up at Veterans Park. There are windscreens located on the back of left field and right field fence on the west diamond. There is also a windscreen located along right field of the east diamond.
Playground Equipment:
Discussion of playground equipment will be tabled to the May meeting.
Summer Programs:
Seth B reported on a draft for summer programs. New camps and programs were explained and discussed. The final draft will be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office to be placed in the May bill.
Unfinished Business
Overlay court:
Discussion was had about overlaying a 3rd tennis court at Washington park with pickleball lines. It was brought up that Sunset courts need some care due to cracking. The overlay will be tabled to the May meeting along with discussion of bids for patching and repainting at all 3 parks.
Lights:
Discussion was had about funding $30,000 for the Washington Park baseball diamond lights. Bill S made a motion to approve the funding and Steve M seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Tee Pads:
Discussion was had on the tee pads at the Baker Lake disc golf course. Steve M and Ray Z will look
into programs and grants that may be available. The funding of disc golf tee pads will be tabled to the May meeting.
Swim:
Last month Alderman Sapienza discussed idea for a Peru summer swimming lessons and summer swim pass at the YMCA. It would be sponsored by the YMCA and the City of Peru Park Board. There will be a $30 cost to obtain the swim pass for Peru residents pre-K though 4th grade. The fee would be reimbursed by the park board if the swim pass holder satisfactorily completed free swimming lessons at the IV YMCA. Bill S made a motion to approve reimbursing the $30 fee with satisfactory completion of swim lessons. Gena W seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
Tree Planting:
Alderman Sapienza presented that at Monday’s Public Works meeting he would be discussing the planting of trees at Washington Park and Centennial Park. There would be 10 White Oaks, 4 Hackberry, 4 Tulip, and 2
Beech trees.
